How to Prune and Care for Fruit Trees at Leaf Landscape North

March is the last month for fruit tree pruning in Austin. Travis County Master Gardeners Reed Burnam, Ray Prewitt, and Sheryl Williams will be conducting a hands-on workshop on how to prune various fruit trees available for sale at Leaf Landscape North. Please join us March 4th, 2023 from 10 am to noon.

The workshop is held outdoors at Leaf Nursery and Landscape Supply, 13292 Pond Springs Rd
Austin, TX 78729.

The inventory at Leaf consists of 2 – 3 year old trees that are ready for their first pruning and to be planted in the ground or large containers. The trees are available for purchase so you can get expert advice prior to taking your tree home.

Additional information on how to espalier fruit trees will be available as time allows. Master Gardeners will stay after the workshop to answer questions. They will also share and tips on growing fruit in containers for those who are interested.

Here’s What to Bring for Pruning Fruit Trees

You will need to bring your own tools and dress appropriately. The workshop will occur rain or shine.

• Hat
• Long sleeved shirt
• Gloves
• Coat/rain gear if needed
• Rubber boots or closed toe shoes
• Sunscreen if needed
• Water
• Hand pruners, loppers, and pruning saws must be clean and disinfected with 70% isopropyl alcohol or bleach. Bring them all if you have them.
